More than 500 insurance leaders attended the annual event which honored Warren Heck, Chairman & CEO of the GNY Companies. Featured speaker was former Free Enterprise Award winner and industry legend Maurice “Hank” Greenberg. The luncheon, an annual event, is dedicated to honoring those who advance the cause of free enterprise in insurance and relate businesses. The list of past honorees is illustrious and Mr. Warren Heck’s name is now added to the memorable list, which includes: Donald Trump, Henry Ford II, Mr. Greenberg and other famed American corporate and industry leaders. In accepting the award from Insurance Federation of New York President Lance Albright, Mr. Heck recounted the history of his company, which started with the insuring of tenements on the lower eastside of Manhattan and has grown today to be a leading underwriter of apartments and other multi-story dwellings in Manhattan. He was warmly received by the audience of 500 which included several old friends and colleagues from the brokerage and legal sides of the business. Mr. Maurice “Hank” Greenberg an industry legend addressed the group and look both forward and backward at the industry, remarking that many of the people in the room had in fact at one time or other worked with him or met him along the trail in this insurance business. Mr. Greenberg was warmly received with a standing ovation as was Mr. Heck, each of whom have made significant marks in the field of insurance these many years. Chairman of the Board Cecilia Norat welcomed the group and was followed by Lance Albright whose remarks were brief but most generous toward those who contributed their time to the Insurance Federation of New York. Among the many guests were: from the N.Y. State Legislature Senator Kemp Hannon, Assemblyman Jonathan Bing and Assemblyman Thomas McKevitt and from the New York State Insurance Department were: Marty Schwartzman, First Deputy Superintendent; Michael Moriarty, Deputy Superintendent for Property & Capital Markets; Matthew Gaul, Deputy Superintendent for Life Insurance; Steve Nachman, Deputy Superintendent for Frauds & Consumer Services; Stacey Rowland, Deputy Superintendent for Intergovernmental & Legislative Affairs, as well as, Monica Marsh, Speical Counsel and Chief Ethics Officer; Ivan Lafayette, Deputy Superintendent for Community Affairs; Maurice Morgenstern, Deputy Bureau Chief of the Property Bureau; Eugene Bienskie, Assistant Deputy Superintendent & Chief of the Property Bureau; Lou Felice, Assistant Deputy Superintendent & Chief of the Health Bureau; Gerry Scattaglia, Assistant Chief of the Property Bureau; Karen Cole, Director of Administration and Operations; Andy Mais, Director of Public Affairs; Paul Zuckerman, Assistant Deputy Superintendent and Counsel. Former Leaders of the New York State Insurance Department in attendance were: Hon. Howard Mills, Hon. James Corcoran, Hon. Salvatore Curiale and Hon. Al Lewis.
