My column today will be short but the message is extremely important. Thanksgiving marks the time when everybody gives thanks for the important things in their lives. Outside of their own families, its highly unlikely that many, if any, people will give thanks for the tireless efforts of insurance professionals. That’s unfortunate because there are so many dedicated people in the insurance industry who want to do nothing more than offer individuals, families and businesses protection and be there to help them in their time of need. It’s not surprising with the negative image and all the negative comments about insurance. When people like the President and the Speaker of the House publicly vilify insurance companies they indict everyone in our industry for the sins of a few.
As we speak, the New York Insurance Department moves forward with a regulation that implies that insurance agents look to take advantage of consumers for the sole purpose of lining their own pockets. It’s unfortunate that so many in the general public allow their opinions to be swayed by the actions of a small minority of unethical and immoral insurance professionals. This attitude and perception truly bothers me because I know so many good and caring people in this industry Since no one else will likely say it please allow me to say “Thank You” to all the insurance professionals and their staffs who work tirelessly and unselfishly to help people. As you and your family sit get together around the den or at dinner tables and share the holidays, giving thanks, remember you deserve to be thanked as well.
Keep your head up and be proud of who you are. Because of your efforts our economy is protected and has the opportunity to grow and prosper. Because of you people sleep soundly comfortable in the knowledge they are protected.
Thank You for all that you do. My sincere best wishes for the holiday season to you, your staff and your families.
