Companies Fined for Omitting Policy Information

TRENTON, N.J., May 1 – Three insurance companies in Atlanta, under a consent agreement were fined $25,000, and also paid $50,000 for the costs of investigations for various violations of New Jerseys insurance laws.

Further, according to the posting, the companies were ordered to make $1.7 million in restitution to affected policyholders. The fines were divulged on the department website as part of an outline of November and December regulatory actions.

According to the posting of consent order EO5-138, an investigation found the three companies issued communications and certificates of insurance to policyholders which omitted information regarding benefit and premium changes.

The companies are American Secu-rity Insurance Co., Standard Guaranty Insurance Company and Union Security Life Insurance Co.

According to the posting, Standard Guaranty was ordered to pay $15,000 as its share of the costs of the investigation, and was also fined $5,000. American Security was fined $5,000, and its share of the investigation costs was $15,000, and Union Security was fined $15,000 and its share of the costs of the investigation, $20,000.
